PM Modi Accuses Congress of Appeasement Politics, Alleges Deal in Wayanad

New Dehli: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of dividing society along caste lines and uniting its vote bank through appeasement. In a controversial allegation during an interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, PM Modi claimed that Rahul Gandhi has struck a deal in Kerala's Wayanad to give Muslims reservations if elected as an MP from the constituency.

"The media should ask a question. Has a deal been struck in Wayanad, promising Muslims to give reservations in favor of making Rahul Gandhi win the seat of Wayanad?" the Prime Minister stated.

PM Modi also hit back at the Congress over allegations that the BJP would alter the Constitution if re-elected. He countered that it is the Congress that has used the Constitution for acquiring power and indulging in vote bank politics.

"Congress is spreading lies claiming that the BJP will change the Constitution of India. If you look at the history of Congress, you'd see they don't believe in the sanctity of the Constitution," he said.

Recounting the difference between 2014 and 2019 polls, PM Modi said earlier the BJP-led NDA was fighting against a ruling coalition with access to government resources. However, this time people's expectations from his 2014 development model have turned into trust due to his government's performance, which is now a "guarantee."

The Prime Minister dubbed the Congress manifesto as that of the Muslim League, alleging their "hidden agenda" is to divide society on caste lines and appease the Muslim community by taking away SC/ST/OBC reservations.

On West Bengal, PM Modi said the state can take the country ahead with its development but criticized the Trinamool Congress government, alleging it has damaged Bengal's culture. He claimed the TMC is not listening to the pain of women, which is why the BJP has fielded common woman candidate Rekha Patra to give a "befitting reply."

The allegations come ahead of the third phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 7 across several states including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
