Islamabad Pakistan- In a devastating incident, five Chinese nationals have become the latest victims of a suicide bomb attack in Pakistan. The attack occurred on a convoy in the northwest region, as reported by Reuters. The convoy, carrying Chinese engineers from Islamabad to their camp in Dasu, was struck by an explosives-laden vehicle in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The regional police chief, Mohammad Ali Gandapur, confirmed the casualties, which included the Pakistani driver of the convoy.
The attack has not been claimed by any group. Bisham Station House Officer Bakht Zahir referred to the explosion as a "suicide blast," with authorities actively gathering evidence at the scene. Following the incident, security measures have been intensified, and the deceased are being transported to a local hospital for post-mortem procedures.
This incident marks the third significant assault on Chinese interests in Pakistan within a single week, raising concerns over the safety of Chinese nationals involved in numerous projects across the country. These projects are part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, a key component of Beijing's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative. The town of Dasu, known for its critical dam project, has seen similar attacks in the past, including a deadly assault in 2021 that claimed the lives of nine Chinese nationals and two Pakistani children.
The authorities have pledged a thorough investigation to uncover the origins of the suicide vehicle and the circumstances leading to this tragic event. The recent spate of attacks underscores the volatile security situation in regions hosting Chinese infrastructure endeavors, casting a shadow over the future of these mega projects.
