Young Life Cut Short: Kashmiri Med Student Dies in Iran, Family Seeks Urgent Repatriation

Srinagar: Tragedy struck a Jammu and Kashmir family today as their son, Arsalan Kanjwal, a promising young medical student, passed away unexpectedly in Iran. The 24-year-old, from Noor Bagh Sopore in Baramulla district, was in his fourth year at IUMS University when the heartbreaking news reached his loved ones.

"He wasn't answering calls since yesterday," a distraught friend of Arsalan told Kashmir Life. "This morning, we kept knocking on his door, but there was no response. Finally, we had to break in, and that's when we found him…lifeless."

The Kanjwal family is now grappling with unimaginable grief while simultaneously facing the logistical hurdle of bringing Arsalan's body back home. They have launched an urgent appeal for support to expedite the repatriation process and fulfill their wish to perform his final rites in his hometown of Sopore.

Adding to the family's anguish is the uncertainty surrounding the cause of Arsalan's sudden demise. "We have very little information right now," shared a close relative. "We desperately need the authorities to investigate and clarify the circumstances surrounding his death."

A glimmer of hope emerged with the Jammu & Kashmir Students Association, led by Nasir Khuehami, stepping up to assist the family. They have reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs and the office of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, urging them to prioritize Arsalan's repatriation.

"We have been assured that the mortal remains will be brought back within the next two days," Khuehami expressed, a sliver of optimism amidst the overwhelming grief. However, he emphasized the need for immediate communication with the Iranian embassy and IUMS University to ensure a smooth and efficient resolution.

Meanwhile, the Kanjwal family is facing mounting financial concerns associated with repatriation expenses. A crowdfunding campaign has been initiated to support them during this incredibly difficult time.

As investigations into Arsalan's death continue, his loved ones cling to the memories of his bright smile and unwavering determination. The young man, who dreamt of healing others, now leaves a void that echoes with the cries of a family desperate to bring him home for one last farewell.

In this moment of profound loss, the community stands united in its support for the Kanjwal family, hoping to ease their burden and expedite the process of reuniting them with their beloved Arsalan.
